Child seats
New Law requires the use of child seat


The use of child’s seats has already been obligatory according to the Código Brasileiro de Trânsito – (Brazilian Civil Code), but will now become law. The intention is to guarantee the children’s safety and to reduce the risk of death in cases of car crash or suddenly breaks.

 
 
According to the Traffic Code, any person who disobeys the new law can be fined R$191,54 for each offence. The infraction is considered severe and the driver’s car can be towed/ withheld.
 
The new DETRAN (National Bureau of Transit) law classification is:
 
1)      Children under 1 year old must wear the retainer called “bebê conforto” (Baby comfort)
2)      Children between 1 and 4 years old must wear the retainer called “cadeirinha” (child car seat).
3)      Children between 4 and 7 and a half years old must wear the retainer called “assento de elevação”(seat lift).
4)      Lastly, children between 7 years and a half and 10 years old must wear the safety belt.
 
P.S-1.: All children must be on the back seat of the car and also the children’s car seats must have the quality control of INMETRO:
 
P.S-2.: The new law will become valid from 1 September. The driver who does not comply will receive a traffic ticket and seven (7) points against the driver licence.
