‘Fight for Peace’
Fight for Peace (Luta Pela Paz) provides practical alternatives to crime and organized armed violence for children and youth in disadvantaged communities via social inclusion through sports, education, access to the formal work market, the promotion of a culture of peace and building youth leaders.
FFP was founded in 2000 in the favela community of Complexo da Maré, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to prevent the involvement of children and adolescents in crime and drug related violence. FFP provides practical alternatives to exclusion, crime and violence for young people via a research‐based methodology known as the 'Five Pillars', an integrated model which includes:
1. Boxing & Martial Arts training and competition;
2. Education and personal development courses;
3. Access to employment through job skills training and internships;
4. Youth leadership training and practice via the Youth Council;
5. Support services for those most at risk via targeted referral, case work and intensive mentoring.
