What We Do - Charity Committee

Welcome to the InC Charity Committee (CC). Charity is defined as: "Collaborative, collective action taken by local people to enhance the long-term social, economic, and environmental conditions in their community. The primary goal of charity is to create a better overall quality of life for everyone in the community." Although most of us in the InC are not "local people," we have chosen to try and make a difference during our time in Brazil.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for charitable activities and services to the community by encouraging and supporting InC members who wish to engage in volunteer work and by supporting various charitable organizations with donations of material goods and volunteer services.

The InC Charity Committee is a group of InC members who meet on a regular basis to administer the donations to charitable organizations on behalf of the InC. This includes selecting and overseeing the groups that receive InC funds. The CC accepts and reviews referrals of charitable organizations from InC members; conducts site visits and reports on these visits; and offers support and oversight to the organizations chosen for InC support. The CC also engages in fund-raising activities such as raffles at the General Meetings of the InC.

By law, projects sponsored by the InC must be established and duly registered charitable organizations with a successful track record serving metropolitan Rio de Janeiro. We will consider any worthy charity but priority is typically given to projects that target education and healthcare for those who few resources. Donations are not made to individuals or to individual families. To find out more about our current projects click here.

The InC Charity Committee is always involved with the charities we support; from montly birthday celebrations to being part of an English teaching team we're sure to have some fun ways for you to spend your time. Every year InC members are invited to nominate established charitable organizations serving Brazilians in metropolitan Rio de Janeiro for InC support. The charitable organization needs to complete the application form and submit it to the CC.      Good second-hand clothes - we distribute them to our sponsored charities.
     Monetary donations - these go directly to the charitable organization.

     Attend InC fund-raising events. Check our calendar for planned special events.
     Participate in a raffle drawing at the Monthly General Meetings.
